Work Package 2: Scientific networking

Work Package 2: Scientific networking

LEADER: JSI
PARTNERS: UPMC, AUTH, IOM, JSI, NIOM, UOWM, IDMEC-FEUP, OIKON, FMUP, NCSRD, URV, UC
START MONTH: 1
END MONTH: 18

Objectives:

  1. To develop scientific networking on the individual exposome and health outcome prediction within and outside EU
  2. To define a networking plan and implement it throughout the project duration

Description of work and role of partners:

The HEALS team will develop and establish scientific networks, both within and outside the EU, including any other projects funded under this call. Moreover HEALS will benefit from a large amount of environmental (e.g., on exposure to chemicals) and health data (e.g., disease prevalence) collected in various EU and world regions by national, international and EU-funded projects and agencies, such as ENVIROGENOMARKERS, COPHES/DEMOCOPHES, HELIX, EXPOsOMICs as well as those completed (PHIME, HENVINET, HEIMTSA, INTARESE, ERA-ENVHEALTH, ENRIECO, DEER, CONTAMED). HEALS will initiate and maintain these scientific networks using traditional techniques (workshops, special sessions in scientific conferences) as well as social media tools.

This WP will consist of the following tasks.

Task 2.1: Development of the HEALS scientific network (JSI, UPMC, AUTH, IOM, UOWM, IDMEC-FEUP, NCSRD, OIKON, URV, UC).

This task will develop and establish scientific networks, both within and outside the EU. HEALS will benefit from a large amount of environmental (e.g., on exposure to chemicals) and health data (e.g., disease prevalence) collected in various national and international projects and by various agencies (EEA, ERCA, JRC). On-going projects including HELIX, EXPOsOMICs OBELIX, DENAMIC, CHICOS, ENVIROGENOMARKERS, COPHES/DEMOCOPHES, OFFICAIR, EPHECT, SINPHONIE, RADPAR, MARINA, NANODEVICE, CITYSENSE, ACROPOLIS, INTEGRA will be included in the HEALS network. HEALS will exploit knowledge databases in existing environmental health networks from on going and recently completed EU and non EU programs and relevant agencies in the EU (EEA, ECHA, JRC) and outside the EU (CDC, Health Canada, Public Health institutes in China, Japan and South Korea, WHO). Stakeholders from industry and NGOs will be included.

Task 2.2: Task 2.2 Maintenance of scientific network (UPMC, AUTH, JSI, FMUP, UOWM, UC)

Following the initiation of the scientific network, Task 2.2 will expand and maintain the network during the course of the project. We will use traditional techniques (workshops, face-to-face meetings, conference presentations) as well as social media tools. Special sessions in scientific events on the exposome will be established to allow easy networking worldwide. The scientific networks will emphasize interdisciplinarity by bringing together epidemiologists, biostatisticians, experts in bioinformatics, laboratory scientists, exposure and dosimetry modellers, and environmental scientists. We will develop a web-based overview of existing ‘exposome relevant’ networks/programs in EU and globally. In this context, we shall be proactive in setting up exposome-specific symposia and scientific sessions in international conference series including the ones organised by ISES, ISEE, SETAC, SOT, EUROTOX, EEMS, ECOPA.
