Objectives:
- To provide the internal training required to ensure effective and shared understanding of the HEALS approach, methodologies and tools.
- To train stakeholders interested in implementing the methods and tools developed in the project
- To train professionals who will use the products and knowledge gained through the project activities
Description of work and role of partners:
Task 18.1 Internal training needs and materials (LMU, AUTH, IOM, FERA)
Training needs will be identified via direct exchange with all other stream leaders, and via an evaluation of progress reports, as almost all aspects of the project will require training. Key areas, methods of training and time schedule will be included and detailed in an internal training plan including:
• E-learning materials for presentation on internal website.
• Formal workshops for all partners or subgroups
• one-to-one training for experimental tasks (staff exchange)
• E-learning will comprise materials such as i) a glossary for a common understanding of the terminology used, ii) an advanced forum for discussions and content creation to facilitate the exchange of information and concepts as well as iii) a sophisticated search engine to easily retrieve the information searched, and iv) manuals and tutorials developed during the project.
• Workshops will generally be organised as two-day meetings, including lectures, demonstrations and discussion groups, and followed by a planning meeting for SP and WP leaders. The initial workshop will focus on inter-disciplinary communication and the exposome concept in HEALS.
• The following yearly workshops will be arranged according to the needs either at Project or Steam level or for the whole Group.
• One-to-one training will consist of short- to medium-term exchanges (up to 4 weeks) of staff between partner laboratories, visits to laboratories by partner PIs, and small-group visits to lead laboratories by research taff.
Task 18.2 Identification of target users and stakeholders (AUTH, OIKON, FERA, UOWM, LMU).
Based on the work performed in WP2 a list of potential stakeholders and end users who will receive information material and will be willing to participate in the training will be completed in the first stage of the project activities. This list may include public health professionals, risk regulators, scientific personnel in the area of environmental health risk assessment in regional and national governments or NGOs, the EC, EEA, ECHA and the WHO
Task 18.3 External training, workshops and material (AUTH, IOM, FERA, UOWM, LMU, OIKON, JSI)
This task starts with the elaboration of a detailed training plan during the first half of the project. This plan will be flexible to adapt to project developments and findings, but is foreseen to contain:
– training on HEALS concepts and methodology (during the first 18 months,)
– training on use of biomarkers batteries in combination with –omics techniques in unravelling the exposome (from month 24 to 30)
– training on the use of the HEALS paradigm and analytical/computational tools (towards the end of the project).
A fundamental part of the external training activities will be performed online via the HEALS web site (see WP19).
Task 18.4 Development of learning material for Universities and programmes for young scientists (AUTH, UOWM, LMU, OIKON)
Learning material for universities will focus on undergraduate and postgraduate students and will be developed based on new knowledge and achievements of the HEALS project. It will comprise fact packs, study guides and computer demonstration materials.
The tasks will include a young researcher exchange scheme (funded by a fond operated by the coordinator) to encourage researchers to visit laboratories with the consortium.
Communications and exchange of experience will be encouraged through email groups and project wiki. Further synergetic effects with e.g. integration of training into a Marie Curie programme will be taken into consideration and explored during the project development.
